Pactual Investment Fund Invests in CPqD
(Săo Paulo, Brazil; July 11th, 2002) - Yesterday, CPqD signed a contract
with Pactual Internet Investment Fund, transferring 22.5% of CPqD’s
participation in Padtec, a company that was wholly controlled by CPqD.
Padtec develops and manufactures optical communications systems and
equipment, an advanced technology used in communication networks built with
optical fiber for data transport. The company reported in 2001, revenues in
excess of US$ 1.5 Million.
For CPqD’s president, Helio Graciosa, the association between Padtec and
Pactual has two important aspects: “First, it is a strategic venture
partner. Second, Pactual will supplement CPqD technology know-how with its
market experience and business intelligence.”
Graciosa said that Padtec has also signed an agreement to sell bundled
products with OFS, a company originated from the fiber and optical cables
division of Lucent Technologies. With customers in Latin America, OFS will
sell solutions comprised of its optical fibers and Padtec’s systems. “Last
week, 20 sales professionals from OFS visited CPqD and received the
necessary technical training,” states Graciosa.
Padtec clients include major telecommunications operating companies, such as
Telefňnica and Embratel, and corporate data communications companies, such
as Pégasus. "We strongly believe in the growth potential of this market,
mainly in the metropolitan network segments,” says José Henrique de
Oliveira, Padtec’s president. He expects revenues in excess of US$ 7 Million
for 2002.
CPqD, traditionally a service company, founded Padtec in 1999 as its
industrial arm, concentrating its small industrial production in the
company. Currently with 35 employees, Padtec became an independent company
last year, focusing on manufacturing optical systems.
